Dakota's Wish List

Who is Professor Dakota?

Dakota is so helpful, we count him as a member of our staff.  This remarkable Samoyed service dog not only assists one of the founding trainers to live more independently with her own disability, he also helps teach new dogs, applicants, students, trainers and the public about many of the tasks that a service dog can learn to perform.  Affectionately dubbed "Professor Dakota" by our students, he has asked us for a web page to tell you about his wish list.

WISH LIST

Gift Certificate
to PetSmart for Training Treats
All of us love liver treats and those little colored milkbones sooo much!  But the accountant says they've become too expensive...we should just be content with a pat on the head.  HELP!!!!

Dog Bed 42" Long
I'm looking for dog beds to help my canine buddies know where they are supposed to sleep at night.  It really helps with the transition process to the home of their new partner.  Doesn't have to be fancy.  My favorite is a rectangular shaped bed with eggshell-crate foam inside and a washable outer covering, navy blue on one side, fleece on the other.

Six foot Long Leashes - Red Nylon, Double Ply strength
Some of my canine buddies can be pretty rough on training equipment.  Leashes get dirty, chewed, frayed or the leash clip for attaching a leash to a collar breaks during training...so replacements are needed.  It is a $9 item at stores like PetSmart.

Crate 48" Long
A crate is like a den to the new dog, a safe place to rest and relax while his family is sleeping or away from home.  For new dogs coming out of a shelter or breeder's kennel a crate is a necessity till the dog is trustworthy loose in the home.  When the program asks someone to volunteer to care for a service dog while a graduate is out of town or in the hospital, a crate must be supplied to prevent damages from separation anxiety for those times when the dog must be left alone.

Gift Certificate(s)
to Pet Supply Catalogs on the Internet like www.kvvet.com
This is a great way to enable the program to buy leashes, collars, crate, dog beds, puppy gates, food and water bowls, grooming items, vitamins and chew toys for us.

Wheelchair- new or used
Our 12 year old one is breaking down due to wear and tear.  Hope someone out there may donate a sturdy one for our trainers to use.

Electric Wheelchair
The program could make good use of one for training purposes, but the price tag, even for a used one, is unaffordable.  So I'm putting that on my wish list!

Thanks for giving this some thought!
